DIY MATCHA LATTE RECIPE- How to Make the Perfect Matcha Latte At Home | honey & be

June 4, 2019

It’s safe to say that we’re officially matcha obsessed. It’s our go-to order at any coffee shop (we are always on the hunt for the best matcha!) and it has become a huge part of our daily wellness routine. While matcha is delicious, what we love about it most is how it makes us feel. There is nothing better than feeling energized from the inside out. The caffeine in matcha is released slowly into the body which gives a lasting energy throughout your day. Plus, matcha contains antioxidants and has mood- boosting properties. Matcha is also known to boost focus and productivity, so whenever we have matcha it feels like our day is off to a positive start! Read our post ALL about the benefits of matcha and why we switched from coffee to matcha here!

Now, if you don’t have a fabulous place to get an order of matcha or you are just interested in making it yourself, we encourage you to try this recipe below!

Making matcha at home as part of your daily routine can be quite ritualistic. Making matcha requires a bit of attention and time, which can be a wonderful pause in your day to slow down.

Classic Matcha Latte Recipe

What You Will Need:

  • Matcha
  • Water
  • Milk of your choice
  • Matcha whisk, milk frother, or small whisk
  • Small bowl
  • Mug

  • 1 tsp matcha powder (it is important to get high quality and organic matcha. We love Matcha Love and Aiya Matcha)
  • 1 tbs warm water (not boiling, 175-185 degrees F)
  • 1-2 cups milk of your choice (we love oat milk by Oatly!) depending on how strong you like matcha!

Optional add-in’s:

  • Honey or Agave for sweetness
  • Cinnamon to spice it up
  • Collagen powder for a beauty boost (Vital Proteins)
  • Mushroom Powders for a wellness boost (Sun Potion or Four Sigmatic)
  • Coconut Butter (Cap beauty daily)

Step 1- Using a matcha whisk, milk frother, or small whisk, whisk the matcha powder and warm water together in “M” motions (not circular) in a small bowl until combined into a thin paste. Be sure that you whisk out the clumps!

Step 2- Warm up your milk on the stove top (do not boil) and whisk or stir any optional add in’s as you wish.

(For an iced matcha, prepare a glass with ice and cold milk. Pour in your whisked matcha paste, stir, and enjoy with an eco friendly straw!)

Step 3- Pour the thin matcha paste into the warm milk. Whisk everything together one last time. If you have a milk frother, use it here for the frothiest latte and extra foam!

Pour into your favorite mug & drink up!

Cheers, honey!
